Welcome to Year 6
Year 6 is a very important year at Silver Tree, as pupils prepare for both the SATs and for the challenges of secondary school. Year 6 is taught by Mr Johnston-McKee, with Mrs Kidd teaching writing skills and Mrs Harvey leading intervention and booster groups.
Autumn Term Learning
Maths
Our Maths topics this term are “Place Value”, “4 Operations” and “Fractions”. Maths teaching follows a model of fluency, reasoning and problem solving to ensure that pupils are appropriately challenged across the Maths curriculum. We will also spend time looking at Arithmetic Paper questions, to begin preparing pupils for more focused SATs revision in the New Year.
English
Mrs Kidd will be leading English teaching this year around Writing and SPaG topics, with Mr Johnston-McKee leading on reading/comprehension skills.
Topic
Our topics for the Autumn term are “In Your Element” and “The Spirit of Christmas”. Topic-based learning provides a running theme across most subjects, whilst ensuring pupils are meeting all the required expectations.
As well as providing opportunities for investigations in Science around the Water Cycle and Plant Life cycles, pupils will have the opportunity to explore these themes in Art, Drama, PSHCE, Geography, History and more.
