Welcome to Year 5
Year 5 is a very exciting year. We work extremely hard and enjoy lots of challenges.
The class teacher is Mr Dhiman, who joined the school in January 2018. Mrs Hunter supports the learning in class on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Mrs Harvey takes the class on Tuesday afternoons.
Curriculum Learning
We have a new approach to our learning this year and are moving away from subjects being taught in isolation and adopting a more creative curriculum. This allows crossover between subjects and makes the learning more “joined up” for the children. Our topic this term is “A World of Cracking Ideas”, which focuses predominantly on Science and History. The children will learn about inventors and inventions, as well as studying how ideas can be protected.
In English our book will be The Chocolate Tree: A Mayan Folktale and we will use this to write our own Mayan inspired folk tales as well asnating top use it as a stimulus for drama and role-play.
For the majority of the term our Maths will focus on Decimals, Properties of Shape, Investigations and Problem solving, and we will also use Maths in curriculum subjects where the links can be made.
The expectation is that all the pupils read each night and that their reading record is signed off by their parent / carer and brought into school the next day.
P.E. is now taught on a Monday. Please ensure that your child has the correct kit including trainers / plimsolls.
