Welcome to Year 2
Welcome to Year 2! We are a class of 27 enthusiastic children with an eagerness to learn. Our class teacher is Mrs Cooper and Mrs Harvey works with us and also teaches us Computing and P.S.H.E every Monday afternoon. Mrs Burnside will be teaching Forest Schools this year. Miss Moody is one of the Year 2 team who will be supporting with our learning this year.
Our Curriculum
Our new curriculum is topic based and ensures a broad and balanced approach to teaching The National Curriculum. Children are able to make links and build on previous learning. Each half term the topic will change and link together a range of subjects with a common theme. Topic work allows the children to gain a deeper understanding of the focus theme and allows them to transfer skills learnt in both Literacy and Numeracy
Year 2 Topics.

English
This year our English lessons will be linked to our class stories, which will also share a thematic link with our overarching topic. We will develop reading comprehension and writing skills through the exploration of our class novels and through related texts linked with our topic.
Maths
This year children will be developing key skills of fluency, reasoning and problem solving in Maths. We begin by extending our understanding of place value understanding different representations. Then we will be focusing on the four operations.
Homework
The children are given weekly spellings on a Monday which are tested on a Friday. They will either be practising a phonic pattern or learning how to spell high frequency/ exception words from the Year 1/2 list.
Class Newsletter
Our class newsletters are sent out every half term. They explain what the children will be learning about in the different lessons and share any upcoming events or trips.
