Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

Our teacher is Mrs Hawdon and we are supported by Mr Crawley and Miss Hall. We have Mrs Burnside every week for Forest Schools!
We are an energetic class of 27 children ready for our Year 1 challenge! We have an outdoor area which still new to us. We will continue to develop this area throughout the year but are super excited to start looking after the chickens!

Our Curriculum & Learning

Our curriculum this year will be topic based which means each half term we will focus on a new  topic. This will allow us to spend more time deepening our understanding of that particular topic through most subjects within the National Curriculum. In order to help us transition to Year 2, we will focus on developing our skills of reading, writing and mathematics across the subjects. Click the links below to find out which topics we will be covering throughout the year!

English

We have a class story each half term which is the main focus for our English lessons. From this story, we will explore lots of different objectives. During our Reading lessons, we will begin exploring VIPERS, this will help to prepare us to move up the school.

Maths

In Maths, we will build upon the skills we learned in Reception to help us develop our fluency, reasoning and problem solving. Throughout the year we will use concrete, pictorial and abstract methods to help support our learning and understanding.

Homework

We will use homework grids this half term which will be uploaded to Class Dojo. Homework will then be submitted onto a folder on Class Dojo and shared with the class every Wednesday. Monster points will be awarded for homework. With the homework grids, children can choose which activity they would like to complete each week.
